Common sense on a plate

Common sense on a plate

What to expect from my blog

Hello, welcome to my blog. I appreciate you taking the time to read my posts, it means the world to me.

My name is Katerina and I love food. And not only that, I love healthy food. But it bothers me that there are so many misconceptions about what healthy food actually is.

You may think that healthy food is (choose one, more, or all of the following) – boring, bland, expensive, complicated, restrictive, annoying calorie and macronutrient counting, loading up on protein supplements… and I would really like to show you that this is not the case. Maybe you have tried some modern diets that promise a lot but ultimately leave you disappointed. Healthy food can be simple, inexpensive, but above all, really good. You don’t have to eat salad and grains every day, and that’s what my blog is about.

Maybe you feel overwhelmed by all the information and advice about children’s diets. Maybe you feel pressured to buy expensive products from advertisements that have cheerful packaging and convince you that your child “needs them for their healthy development.” Maybe you are also stressed by all the sweets that are bombarding your children from all sides, and you don’t know how it’s even possible to avoid them in today’s world. Believe me, I’ve been through it.

You might think that you have to be a skilled cook and have a lot of experience to prepare quality meals. Maybe you feel like you can’t do anything without a recipe, and maybe you’ve experienced big disappointments from recipes that looked beautiful in the picture, but the reality was different. Again – believe me, I’ve been there too. I would like to show you that your first steps in the kitchen don’t have to be stressful and full of chaos, and I would like to show you how to take steps to gain confidence and independence in the kitchen.

I am not a professional chef and don’t have any fancy culinary titles or nutrition degrees under my belt. What I do have under my belt though is countless hours spent reading books about cooking and nutrition, watching cooking videos and shows, reading interviews and listening to podcasts with experts on healthy eating – but mostly dozens of hours spent in the kitchen, in most cases together with the children, where I cook three homemade meals every day for almost 10 years.

My goal is not to teach anyone how to make perfect “velouté” or “beurre blanc,” or how to make truly authentic versions of certain dishes. I want to share with you food that is above all tasty, nutritious for the whole family, but also achievable to prepare for someone with a busy lifestyle (I am a mother of three little girls, the older ones are homeschooled and the youngest is currently a toddler, so believe me, time is a really precious commodity in my household).

I hope I can inspire some of you to embark on a journey away from ultra-processed food, which has become the absolute norm in our society, towards homemade food. I would like to write content that is educational (but in a simple way – instead of technical terms, I would rather use common sense), but also practical, and I would be very happy to share with you some of my favorite recipes and small tips and tricks that help me enjoy the time spent in the kitchen every day.

On top of the regular articles that I will be posting, you can also check out my e-books.
